Shakib Al-Hasan – the all-rounder, and Tamim Iqbal – the opening batter, have been the major pillars in the last decade for the Bangladesh Cricket Team in building and inspiring young talents nationwide. But the tale worsened as the senior pros went against each other at one point.
In a recent press conference, the BCB president revealed an ongoing rift between the Shakib-Tamim, and the communication between these 2 fielders is in a bad state.
After this news, the opening batsman revealed, “I’m well aware of this and expected these questions to be raised. It would be much easier to negate these but have the responsibility to address and reveal my thoughts to the journal panel & fans in this regard.”

Tamim recently retired from the T20I and was named the ODI captain. Where Shakib was appointed as the captain of the Test & T20 teams. With so much happening inside the dressing room, Nazmul Hasan said – “It’s not the happiest team environment to be in at the moment, which I can whole-heartedly say!” He also added that settling things down is difficult “as I spoke to them individually.”
In his interview, he also said that “there is a recent hierarchical structure where players are narrowed down to certain groups, which will certainly hinder the performance and growth of cricketers in the nation, which scares me the most.”

On the BCB statement, Tamim wasn’t considered in the squad and was stated to be inadequate fitness due to back spasms. In return, Tamim fumed on this matter by commenting on it as a “Shocking Incident.”
From Reuters, it’s been understood that Tamim made unprecedented language and misbehaved during the meeting at BCB. The board stated later in that event was “surprising” after what Tamim did, and it has been confirmed that the move to play him down the order is a tactical move by navigating the matchup against Afghanistan spinners.
After all this conundrum, Shakib finally said, “Stepping aside in the middle of the series is an irresponsible decision that too being a leader of that group. I haven’t seen any captain do that recently by leaving the entire team & players at bay. Thus, the onus is on one player (Tamim) who took an emotional front to retire after one game at the series.”
